Every design here started as an original tapestry, woven by hand from retired commercial fishing gear off the Port of Newport, Oregon. Rope and net that once worked the water are reshaped into images of the wildlife and traditions that define this coast.

Meet "Got Fish?"
The Harbor Seal is a familiar sight along Newport's working waterfront, curious and watchful, always seeming to know when fish are close by. She looks like she just popped up beside the boat with one question on her mind: are you going to share?
The original was woven from retired fishing rope collected at the Port of Newport, and later exhibited in Woven from the Port at the Newport Visual Arts Center. It now lives in a private collection, but her curious, hopeful face made her the natural first design for this collection.
Meet "Looking to the West"
It's hard not to smile at a tufted puffin. Between the bright bill and sweep of golden head feathers, it manages to look elegant and a bit comical at the same time.
This weaving was created from retired commercial fishing gear from the Port of Newport, giving material from the working waterfront a new job: telling the story of one of the coast's most recognizable seabirds. The original weaving stays one of a kind, but this design lets the puffin's personality travel beyond the gallery wall.
