Meet "Home Waters"
This breaching orca was designed to resemble the pectoral fin and head shape of the Southern Resident killer whale population — a critically endangered group found only off the Pacific Northwest coast. To see one breach, even for a moment, is a rare and fleeting privilege.
The full original weaving stands seven feet tall and five and a half feet wide, woven from retired fishing rope and currently on view in Woven from the Port at the Newport Visual Arts Center. This design is drawn from a portion of that larger piece, which has not yet found its home.
